Shunaji

Shunaji blends rap, production, and cinema-minded ideas

Shunaji is a Nigerian-born producer and songwriter from Rome who is based in London, and her work is presented across r&b and hip hop. Her About page says, “My music's been supported by Help Musicians UK and PRS Foundation,” and also notes that she works as an animator, visual artist and web designer. A Wordplay interview describes her sound as “somewhere in between outer space psychedelic funk and conscious, cinematic hip hop, with a hint of soul and contemporary R&B.” Her debut EP Midnight Movie is framed as a “mini-soundtrack,” and the release notes say its sounds “aspire to evoke a cinematic dimension.” Start with Welcome and Fellini to hear that documented release in context.
