Emzae builds pop from self-teaching, persistence, and DIY control
Emzae, the stage name of Derby musician Emma, has been releasing music for years and describes herself as a singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and entrepreneur. She began uploading music online around 2014 and started releasing it officially around 2018. Across interviews, she presents her work as self-directed and hands-on, from writing and production to artwork and release planning. She also says her music helps her process thoughts and emotions, and that she wants listeners who share similar experiences to feel understood. Her debut album arrived on her own label, and she continues to balance live performance, recording, and promotion while working independently.
