Meet Common Holly.
Common Holly is the Montreal project of Brigitte Naggar, whose work is presented here through two Bandcamp albums from 2017 and 2019. The sources describe Playing House as a record shaped by “singer-songwriter/folk framework” and “textured, eclectic electro-acoustic production,” while the later album is framed as a darker and more experimental follow-up. Across both releases, the writing stays close to emotional exposure, but the second album broadens its perspective and leans into sharper edges, larger questions, and more outward-looking scenes. Start with the title track from Playing House and then move to Joshua Snakes from When I say to you Black Lightning to hear how her approach develops across the two records.
