Blue Cactus began on North Carolina’s active honky-tonk circuit and now moves across folk, alt-country, and psychedelic-tinged rock. The group’s Bandcamp discography shows a self-titled debut in 2017 and Believer in 2025, along with several releases in between. Believer is presented as a record of piercing songs shaped by struggle and hope, while the earlier material shows the duo working with a wider circle of collaborators. A good way in is to hear the debut and then jump to the newer album, so the changes in approach and scope are easy to follow. The catalog also reflects a steady writing partnership between Steph Stewart and Mario Arnez.
